In 2024, the Department of Anesthesiology of National Taiwan University Hospital
established a new type of outpatient clinic: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery(ERAS).
ERAS clinic, an advanced, evidence-based medical approach, designed to optimize all
phases of the surgical process. We aim to accelerate patient recovery, reduce
postoperative complications, and shorten hospital stays. ERAS emphasizes
patient-centered care through collaboration across a multidisciplinary team,
including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, nutritionists, and physical
therapists. Each patient receives a personalized recovery plan that covers
preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management. This includes mental and
physical preparation before surgery, the use of minimally invasive techniques and
multimodal pain management during surgery, and early mobilization and nutritional
support after surgery. The goal of ERAS is to minimize the physiological and
psychological stress of surgery, helping patients to recover more quickly and return
to their normal lives. This integrated and continuously improving care model not
only enhances the safety and effectiveness of surgery but also significantly
improves the overall health care quality.
