Fever is the common presenting complaint in children and is defined as abnormal
elevation of the body temperature with elevated hypothalalmic set-point in response
to a disease or illness. Various illnesses and conditions can cause fever and they
include infectious diseases (e.g., common cold, urinary tract infection, acute
infectious diarrhea, pneumonia, meningitis, septic arthritis, etc.), autoimmune
disorders, neoplasms, drug fever, inflammatory illnesses and others. The evaluation
and management of febrile illnesses in children can be clinically challenging.
