If you have infections that occur more frequently than peers, or household members who are older than you, or your infections persist or recur after antibiotics are discontinued, you should visit an infectious diseases specialist to help understand whether you have an immune defect, concurrent anatomical defect or foci of infection that act as barriers to cure, uncontrolled underlying diabetes, cirrhosis, chronic renal disease, malignancy or malnutrition, and last but not least, an unusual pathogen.
