Cough is an airway protective mechanism. But chronic cough is disturbing and might be symptom of some diseases. Post-nasal drip, asthma attack, gastroesophageal reflux disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are common etiologies of chronic cough. Before visiting your physician, you could review below conditions which you had encountered with. Allergic rhinitis history? Night time cough? Cigarette smoking history? Productive cough or dry cough? Characteristic of sputum? (you could take a picture by your cell phone)? Accompanying symptoms, i.e. fever, unexpected weight loss. Providing comprehensive, organized information would help your physician to make diagnosis exactly and resolve your problem efficiently.
