* Reminder from Dr. Chou:

  • There are nine warning signs of pediatric cancer: hepatosplenomegaly, pale-looking, lump or mass, unexplained pain, recurrent fever of unknown cause, neurological symptoms, bleeding tendency, abnormal light reflex in eyes, and enlarged lymph nodes. If these symptoms or signs are found, work-up by pediatric oncologist should be done as soon as possible.

    The cause of hematological disease in children is different from adults. Besides, children seldom feel discomfort from their hematological problems. There are several signs indicating hematological problems, including pale-looking, unexplained bruise or easily bleeding. Further evaluation by pediatric hematologist is needed if these signs are noted.
